THE COLLEGE: A private, four year, coeducational college, founded in 1851.

LOCATION: The 90-acre campus commands the highest point in Jefferson City, Tennessee, a town of 6,000,surrounded by rolling pastureland and the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, located 30 minutes from Knoxville, TN.

CAMPUS: The campus consists of 20 major buildings,most of them neo-Georgian architecture.Carson-Newman boasts great athletics facilities, two artgalleries, a recital hall, and a theater.

HOUSING: Some 1,200 students are housed in five residence halls, three for women and two for men. Married students and others who meet certain criteria canlive in private housing off-campus. College-owned apartments available to married students on a limited basis.

STUDENTS: 2,050 undergraduate and 250 graduate students from 42 states and 12 foreign countries;44% male, 56% female.

FACULTY: More than 65% hold doctorates. Student/faculty ratio is 13 to 1.

INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS:
Nationally competitiveteams in 16 sports. Men's varsity sports include
football, basketball, baseball, track, cross-country, wrestling,soccer, tennis, and golf. Women's intercollegiate teams in basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, soccer, track, and cross-country.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS: One of the finest programs in the South, with 36 activities, including coed football, flag football, golf, tennis, volleyball, aerobics, ping-pong, chess, racquetball, and billiards.

professional leadership skills.

A non-clinical major directed toward students who envision careers in
an institution, church, or agency setting wherein state licensure is not required.
Master of Education (MEd) Degree: Marriage and Family Therapy
A clinical program which, following all graduate and post-graduate requirements, prepares the student to sit for the Tennessee licensure exam as a marriage and family therapist.

Master of Science in Nursing
The Division of Nursing at Carson-Newman offers a Family Nurse Practitioner Program leading to a Master of Science Degree in Nursing. The program prepares the graduate nurse to provide primary health care services to individuals of all ages in a variety of settings. If you already hold a bachelor's degree in nursing and are eager to move into an advanced practice role, a master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner may be what you are looking for. Opportunities in the health care field are almost unlimited in this challenging role.

Students learn from a highly motivated, caring faculty and stimulating clinical experiences. At the completion of theprogram, graduates are eligible to take the national FNP certifying examination. The overall goal of the Master of Science in Nursing programat Carson-Newman College is to prepare the baccalaureate nurse foran advanced practice role in nursing within the context of Christian beliefs, values, and behaviors. A nurse prepared at the master's level has substantive knowledge, competence, and skill and is able to effectively provide and direct client services at an advanced level in the health care delivery system. The master's level nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for synthesis of knowledge for specialization and leadership in a select field of nursing practice. An integral part of graduate education in nursing is the ability to participate in scholarly investigation of questions that contribute to the discipline of nursing and health care.
