MASTER’S DEGREE

Master of Science in Computer Games Technology:  The MSc in CGT provides students, who already have strong programming skills, with the necessary specialist skills required of a games programmer.  The core of the course is built around essential programming skills development. Technically, computer games are interactive movies with the scenery, characters, sound, and lighting created in real time by the code written by programmers. You will learn 2D and 3D programming for the PC and the essentials of console games development.

  • On the course you will learn how the areas of sound, music, and art, are created, stored, and used in a game studio.
  • The course develops a strong grasp of mathematics and physics--engaging games emulate aspects of the real world including gravity, reflection, and movement.
  • Throughout the course, a portfolio is developed which can be used to show the skills gained to prospective employers.

The MSc in Computer Games Technology is a 12-month program

MSc Admission Requirements:

  • Completion of a 4-year undergraduate degree in Computer Science or an undergraduate degree with a strong background in mathematics and C/C++ programming language.
  • Written evidence of competency in C++

SECOND DEGREES

 If you have an undergraduate degree in an area of study other than Computer Science or Information Technology, this may be the program for you! You can fast-track a second degree in just 12-months. The Accelerated Second-Degree program, or Accel program, has been specially designed and scheduled to meet all required courses and the students' desire to complete the degree as quickly as possible. The Accel program begins in May and students complete the program the following April; students graduate with the equivalent of a 3-year undegraduate degree is just 12 months

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Sault Program for English Language Learning(SPELL)

This program is a great "alternative" if you do not have a TOEFL score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) but want to study in a degree program at Algoma University. SPELL is also available to intermediate-advanced students who want to enhance their English proficiency but not go on to university studies.

There are 5 SPELL levels, and you should expect to spend 1 or 2 terms (12 weeks of full-time study per term) before you'll be prepared for degree studies. Tuition fees are approximately $2,600 per term (the exact amount will be included in your offer letter). Upon completion of the Advanced SPELL (level 0500) with a minimum of 60%, admitted students may begin their degree program.

Who is considered an international student?

Students who are neither Canadian citizens nor Canadian landed immigrants are considered international students.

What are the steps for an international student to study in Canada?

All international students require a study permit to study in Canada. After you have applied to Algoma University and have received your Confirmation of Offer of Admission, you should immediately begin the application process for your study permit. Applications are available at the Canadian Embassy, Consulate or Immigration office in your country.
 
How do I apply to Algoma U?

International students applying to full-time studies starting in September, January or spring, apply through INDUS to Algoma University College.

What are the English language requirements?

Proof of English language proficiency is required to attend Algoma University College. One of the following minimal requirements must be met in order to be eligible for admission:

  TOEFL score of 550 (213 computer based)
  IELTS 6.5         

Homestay

For international students interested in living with a Canada family, there is our Homestay family program. This program is excellent for students who want to improve their English skills or who want to adjust to life in a new country with the support of a family.
